Rovers in more trouble after loss in fiery clash

11:00am Sunday 5th February 2012

BOURTON Rovers slipped further into the relegation zone with a 3-1 home defeat to Wotton Rovers in a feisty encounter.

The visitors started better in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two fixture and went in front on 15 minutes.

A mix-up between keeper Jack Galpin and Mark Payne let the Wotton centre-back head home.

The opening goal woke the hosts up and Matt Winter shot into the side-netting after a cross from Kevin Hunt.

Moments later, Winter had a shot on the turn hit the post and Adam Webley dragged a great chance wide when put through by a superb pass from Phil Colmer.

With Bourton dominating, it was the same old story from recent weeks as Wotton caught them on the break and made it 2-0 just before the interval.

Rovers came out fired up in the second period and pulled a goal back on 55 minutes when a superb Josh Catling cross was headed home by Webley.

For the next 10 minutes, it was all Bourton and a Catling shot from 25 yards out was brilliantly tipped over the bar.

But, other than that, with all their pressure the home team failed to make any other clear-cut chances.

Wotton defended well and confidence started growing throughout their team.

Bourton began to get frustrated and, with tackles flying in, the referee dished out plenty of yellow cards.

The hosts lost their rhythm and Wotton sealed victory late on after a goalmouth scramble to leave second- from-bottom Bourton in serious trouble.
