Campden continue on rich vein of form
11:00am Sunday 5th February 2012
CHIPPING Campden recorded another impressive victory in West Club Women’s League Severn Division Two.
They followed up their 3-2 success at Gloucester fourths the previous week with a 4-0 home win over Lydney thirds.
The hosts started well and kept possession of the ball in their opponents’ half.
Player-of-the-match Kate Potter and captain Frankie Hope, together with Steph Watson, kept things tight in defence, keeping Michelle Badham in goal safe from any threat.
However, Campden failed to find the target in the early stages with efforts going wide from Berni Amphlett and Sarah Green.
Eventually, Sue Purcell made the breakthrough with a superb strike from just inside the area.
In the second period, Lydney upped their game from the restart and forced Badham to pull off great saves to keep the lead intact.
Campden regained control with Rachael Barker, Sally Beale and Charlotte Styles combining for Green to shoot home from a narrow angle.
A short-corner routine was kicked off the line by a defender and Jo Peachey calmly converted the resulting penalty flick.
Styles went close before Lucy Dee found Green unmarked to complete the scoring.
Fourth-placed Campden visit Shipton Oliffe on Saturday (11am) at St Edwards School, Cheltenham.
